About Peter B Kang

Dr. Kang is a pediatric neurologist and physician-scientist whose clinical and research interests focus on neuromuscular disorders. He has been Chief of the Division of Pediatric Neurology since 2013 and Director of the Pediatric Neurology Residency Program since 2016. During this period, seven new faculty members have joined the Division, and the residency program has grown and matured rapidly. All faculty members are contributing to subspecialty clinics, new research initiatives, and the enhancement of education at the resident, fellow, and medical student levels.

Dr. Kang’s research laboratory focuses on the genetics of limb girdle muscular dystrophy and other pediatric neuromuscular disorders, along with the mechanisms of rare muscle diseases including MEGF10 myopathy, and he has published extensively on these subjects. His work has been supported by the National Institutes of Health and the Muscular Dystrophy Association. Among his former trainees, several are faculty members in the United States, Canada, South Korea, and Japan.

Dr. Kang is an associate editor of Muscle & Nerve and an editorial board member of two other journals: Neurology and Pediatric Neurology. He recently completed two terms on the editorial board of Pediatrics. He is a member and former chair of the executive committee of the Section on Neurology of the American Academy of Pediatrics. He has served on the Board of Directors of the Child Neurology Society, on the Ethics, Law and Humanities Committee of the American Academy of Neurology, and as Secretary-Treasurer of the Massachusetts Medical Society. He completed medical school at the University of Pennsylvania, pediatric residency at Yale-New Haven Hospital, a pediatric neurology residency at the University of Pennsylvania, and a fellowship in clinical neurophysiology at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center. Prior to his arrival at UF, Dr. Kang was an Associate Professor of Neurology at Harvard Medical School and the Director of the Electromyography Laboratory at Boston Children’s Hospital.
